Charlote 49ers Football Recruit Confidential: Kennan Gilchrist

Abbeville (SC) offensive linebacker/defensive end Kennan Gilchrist has certainly been part of a winning tradition–his Panthers are coming off back-to-back 1A state championships.  Now, with his senior season upon him, his eyes and thoughts are on taking his talents to the next level collegiately.  The Charlotte 49ers, one of his five offers (along with Air Force, App State, Furman and Wofford), may very well play into those plans.

Not only does Gilchrist start on the offensive line, he’s been utilized in other roles as well.  In last night’s game against Batesburg-Leesville, he caught a pass for a two-point conversion in the Panthers’ 35-7 road win.  He also stars on the other end of the ball–racking up 99 tackles (eight for a loss) with seven sacks, while also adding three defensive touchdowns and two interceptions last year for the state champs.  He’s also a solid student, with a 3.6 GPA during his junior season.

We’ll keep an eye on Kennan and the Panthers as they seek their third straight state championship; they’re off to a good start right now (6-1, 1-0 in the league).  In the meantime, check out a couple of his highlight videos in the Hub.
