Pretty much most of America knows that November 8 is a significant date for the nation. November 9, though, is a significant date in the recruiting world. That’s when college basketball’s early signing period begins–and St. Patrick (NJ) DeAndre Bembry is one of the targets for the Charlotte 49ers.
The 6’6′ forward and Charlotte native currently holds offers from the Niners, Auburn, Seton Hall, Villanova and Virginia Tech among others. If the high school name sounds familiar, that’s because NBA Draft lottery picks Michael Kidd-Gilchrist (2012, 2nd overall) and Kyrie Irving (2011, 1st overall) are alums. However, 2012-13 will look a little different for Bembry. That’s because St. Patrick closed its doors in June and has been reborn at a new location as The Patrick School.
Over the summer, Bembry played in the Reebok Showdown Series, where he got high marks for his rebounding, passing and dunking skills–and ended the championship game as the top scorer (and only double digit scorer) for his team. He’s also played in the Mary Kline Classic (and is on the roster for now for next year’s event). Judging by the attention he’s gotten so far, he figures to be a solid prospect that could start right away in a mid-major setting–with the possibility of seeing some minutes off the bench at a BCS conference school.
