Charlotte 49ers head coach Brad Lambert has had his background in defense (as a DC up at Wake Forest). But one defensive player that’s on his radar who has been getting it done on both sides of the ball is Vance (NC) ’13 cornerback Nolan Corpening. Right now Corpening has two offers (Charlotte and Air Force)–with schools like Clemson, Florida State and NC State on his list.
Corpening is being listed primarily as a cornerback; he has 19 tackles (12 solo) as well as a recovered fumble to his credit. Offensively, he’s been used in a number of roles–with a little time at running back (33 carries for 217 yards and a touchdown) as well as receiving (11 catches for 186 yards and three touchdowns). The Cougars have also utilized him in kick and punt returns, where he has done reasonably well. His biggest game of the year was in a win over Mooresville on September 21, when he made two touchdown catches of 24 and 47 yards and added a third score on an interception return.
If Nolan chooses Charlotte, Lambert and his staff will certainly have some decisions to make as to where to primarily use him. While his numbers aren’t off the charts, he’s definitely a well-rounded talent, and has a chance to contribute to whichever school he ends up at. Take a look at some video highlights over at The Hub.
