Charlotte 49ers #PickAxePick: MSoc's D

The old saying goes that defense wins championships.  When it came to the Charlotte 49ers men’s soccer team this weekend, theirs was well on the mark.  That’s why we give not just one Niner player, but the entire defense, this week’s Pick Axe Pick.  In the two matches this weekend against Fordham (0-0) and La Salle (3-0), Klay Davis and the Niners D kept two clean sheets.  In fact, Davis didn’t get a whole lot of work over the weekend, facing a grand total of six shots in the two games combined (four on Friday, two on Sunday) while only needing to make two saves altogether (one save in each game).  It doesn’t get much better than that.  In fact, going back to October 7’s win at Richmond, Davis has faced nine shots, with just four on net.

We’ll see if the guys can keep it going against UMass and Rhode Island this weekend at Transamerica and extend their lengthy home unbeaten streak.
