All the practices, workouts, and preparation have all come down to this. Coach Alan Major has drawn up his game plan. The Charlotte 49ers men’s basketball team is finally ready to lace up their shoes and hit Halton Arena for the first time in game action, in front of thousands of fans.
It doesn’t count, but it’s time to get excited, Niner Nation: college basketball season is finally here. The Green and White will welcome the Pfeiffer Falcons to the arena tonight at 7pm in an exhibition game where fans will get their first not-really-official-but-official look at the team. If last year’s exhibition against Belmont Abbey is any indication, expect to see Major spread the minutes around as he looks to find a combination that works for November 9’s season opener against Charleston Southern at Halton.
There’s not a whole lot of scouting that we can do for the Falcons, since it’s an exhibition and, again, it doesn’t count. But it’s basketball, so consider this a dry run for both the Niners, and the Digest’s Countdown to Tipoff, where we’ll preview the team’s upcoming opponents every game day morning throughout the season. When applicable, we will call upon our fellow Fansided blogs to give us a hand (i.e. Canes Warning for the December 14 game at the U). Here we go…

All-time series: Pfeiffer leads 2-0*
–The Falcons play in Conference Carolinas in Division II, where they finished 12-14 (6-10 in the conference).
–Their leading returning scorer is John Humphrey (6.9 PPG).
–Pfeiffer is a very young team, welcoming 10 freshmen. Humphrey is the only senior on the squad.
–Jeremy Currier is the head coach of the Falcons. He is assisted by Matt Adams and Steven Enright.
–Fun fact: Charlotte assistant Rob Perron was an assistant head coach at Pfeiffer from 2000-02 and an associate head coach in the 2005-06 season.
*These two teams haven’t played a regular season/non exhibition since 1970** (according to our extensive research***), when Pfeiffer won 74-65 in Misenheimer on January 29 and 88-72 at the Harrisburg Gym on February 16.
**None of the Digest staff was alive or even conceived then.
***We just looked it up in the Charlotte media guide.
