Charlotte 49ers 80, NCCU 31: Post Game Digest-ables

It was all Charlotte 49ers, all the time as the women’s basketball team opened the game with 20 unanswered points and had no trouble handling lowly North Carolina Central, 80-31, in their home opener at Halton Arena.  Not a lot to complain about in this one, so let’s jump right in and get things started.

Prime Performers–Amanda Dowe, Jai Forney and Jennifer Hailey: The trio combined for 33 of the Niners’ 80 points (Dowe 12, Forney 11 and Hailey 10). Hailey (10) and Dowe (8) combined for 18 rebounds.

Honorable Mention–Ny Hammonds: Credit to Hammonds with a strong game.  She finished with nine assists versus just one turnover (as well as nine points).

Killer D: The Niners forced 28 NCCU turnovers and held them to just eight points in the first half (25.8% shooting overall).  They also registered three blocks and nine steals.

Numbers We Liked: A lot of them–the 80 points put up, the 49(!)-point margin of victory (a repeat of the JCSU exhibition win), the 51.4% shooting from the field, just ten turnovers, 38 rebounds.  All in all, a rock solid team effort; all 11 Niners that saw action tonight scored at least two points.

Numbers We Didn’t Like: In all honesty, there really weren’t any numbers we didn’t like about tonight.

Final Thoughts: Couldn’t have been a better debut for the ladies.  A nearly perfect performance from wire to wire.

Next Up: At TCU, Wednesday at 8pm.
