The Niners 2012 season came to an end Sunday afternoon in D.C. after losing a tough one to the Georgetown Hoyas 1-0 in the 2nd round of the NCAA tournament. This marks the end of 5 great careers that forever changed Charlotte soccer: Seniors Owen Darby, Donnie Smith, Aaron Weldon, Jennings Rex, and Isaac Caughran. These boys in green will be missed, and going out this early in the big dance was not on anyone’s agenda. Let’s get to it…for the last time.
A close first half almost gave the road team an advantage until the 43rd minute when Georgetown sharp shooter Brandon Allen put in his 14th goal of the year off a cornerkick. From then on, it just wasn’t the 49ers’ day. Even with 6 of their 8 shots coming in the 2nd half, the Niners just couldn’t find the nylon, disappointingly ending this season’s campaign. Head coach Kevin Langan completed his first year at the top of the program with a solid 15 wins and looks to continue the success next year. It was a good run gang, seeya next year!
