Kansas State 67, Charlotte 49ers 63: Post Game Digest-ables

Despite a late run, the Charlotte 49ers couldn’t pull it out in the end, dropping a 67-63 decision to Kansas State on Saturday night–the Niners’ first loss of the season (3-1).  Poor outside shooting and sloppy play were the contributing factors in this one.  Let’s take a look back at this one in hopes that the ladies can bounce back in time for their next game.

Prime Performer: The star of the night for Charlotte was Amanda Dowe, finishing with 18 points (on 7-11 shooting from the field and 4-5 at the line) and 14 rebounds.  Honorable mention: Jennifer Hailey, who grinded out 14 points (4-11 from the field) but tore down 13 boards; and Jai Forney (14 points, 7-13 FG).

Numbers We Liked: Dowe and Hailey were forces on the glass.  As a team, the Niners outrebounded the Wildcats, 46-35.  Ny Hammonds finished with a solid nine assists.

Numbers We Didn’t Like: The aforementioned 19 turnovers (six by Hammonds, four by Forney) and 1-12 three point shooting.  Charlotte sharpshooter Hilary Sigmon was ice cold (1-6 from three).  Hammonds (2-12 FG) couldn’t find her stroke.  An 8-0 K-State run in the first half didn’t help matters, either.

Final Thoughts: Charlotte hung with K-State early and had a chance to pull out a win, but the Wildcats simply had the better of the play and made their shots when they needed to.

Next Up: The Niners hop on a plane and head to Orlando for a Wednesday night tilt against UCF at 7pm.
