It’s Davidson week. The big day–Wednesday–is approaching, and the Charlotte 49ers are gearing up for the trip up I-77 to take on their rivals to the north, the Davidson Wildcats. The Cats will be looking for a little revenge after the stomping they took last year at Halton Arena, and as we said last week, throw out the record books, because you won’t need them for this rivalry game. Up for grabs: local bragging rights and the Hornet’s Nest trophy that currently rests in the basketball department on the second floor of the Student Activities Center.
The (virtual) shots are being fired already between the D-Block and Niner Nation. For your viewing pleasure, here’s what’s been said so far by “Bill Edwards”, a nod to the fictional Davidson grad of 1953.
It’s funny. You try to google “UNCC Basketball”, and Google asks if you mean “UNC”@charlotte49ers

Hey @darionclark , heard you got into a little scuffle the other night vs. ECU.You don’t wanna do that in Belk Arena…

If all your school can brag about is the soccer team, you’re doing it wrong.. #NinerNation

In all seriousness, it’s nothing more than some good-natured ribbing between two rival schools. Of course, Charlotte fans have inevitably fired back at Davidson fans, taunting them about their “high school gym”, the fact that UNCC has a Chick-Fil-A and Davidson doesn’t, etc. And don’t forget the tried and true “LOLCats”. So if you’re planning to fight back (virtually), do so responsibly. Do your homework. And above all, have fun and keep it clean.
