Charlotte 49ers Basketball: Niners can’t afford letdown at Kennesaw State

It would be easy for the Charlotte 49ers to fold up their tents after a blowout loss against Miami last night in South Beach. But they can’t. Tomorrow afternoon their next opponent waits, and it’s Kennesaw State, who they’ll take on in a 4pm tilt in Georgia.

The Owls are 1-7 going into the game, but four of those losses have been by less than nine points. One of the losses, a 76-67 defeat in Knoxville against Tennessee, saw KSU hang with the Vols much of the game before the home team turned it on late in the first half and early in the second. They have three players in double figures (Markeith Cummings–18.4, Delbert Love and Aaron Anderson–10.1). Plus, they’ve been off for over two weeks, so they’ll be well rested coming into the game’s action. Or will rust play a factor?

In any event, the Niners should win this game easily by all accounts. They suffered a setback to Miami in a game that not a whole lot of people thought that they’d win. Now, with two lesser opponents coming up (including Radford at home on Wednesday), they can ill afford to take either one for granted. They need to get back to their basic game plan against two teams that are nowhere near the size and strength of the Hurricanes. Otherwise, it will cast a significant shadow over their current 9-1 start to the season.
