We’ve been tracking Vance (NC) defensive back Nolan Corpening for a while, especially since he had an offer outstanding from both the Charlotte 49ers and Air Force. Today, he decided to play his college football here in Charlotte, as he gave Coach Brad Lambert and his staff a verbal commitment to join the team this fall.
Charlotte may have been the favorite for a while in Corpening’s mind. A few months back, our own Kevin Hassard caught up with him, and he mentioned that the appeal of making history by playing on the school’s first team as well as possible playing time would be a deciding factor. Given that Air Force is an FBS school, and that Corpening would have had a chance to play at that level right away versus waiting for two years, it appears that those tow factors, as well as the chance to play in front of friends and family, did it for him.
We’ve also mentioned Corpening’s versatility. While seeing much time at cornerback, he has also played running back, receiving and special teams.
With Corpening in the mix, don’t be surprised to see his friend and teammate, Jalen Latter, stick the Niners high on his own list. The cornerback has offers from the Green and White, Air Force and Navy.
Corpening’s verbal makes 15 commits for the Niners so far. Keep track of who else has signed on our 2013 recruit page.
Note: National Signing day is Wednesday, February 6.
