This slipped past us over the past week (somehow), but tonight we learned that former Charlotte 49ers forward Evan James, part of the team’s run to the national championship game in 2011, is listed on the Canadian men’s senior national team roster. James isn’t playing for a pro team at the moment, despite being drafted first in the supplemental draft in 2012 by Montreal Impact.
James was a U23 member last year, but made his debut with the senior national team on Saturday as a second half sub in the team’s 4-0 loss to Denmark in a friendly. He also saw time in the USA/Canada friendly in Houston on Tuesday night (briefly), coming on in the 89th minute before being replaced in the 92nd minute.
It’s great to see a Charlotte player on the international stage, and we’ll keep an eye on James’s progress throughout the year and beyond.
