The Charlotte 49ers football team already has a group of verbal commitments rounded up, and all that’s left is for some of them to put pen to paper on National Signing Day on Wednesday. But there’s still some players yet to make their decision. Here’s five that we spotted that could be wearing Niner green this fall.
Offers: Charlotte, App. State, ECU
Gates is a local product that may make the decision ultimately to play close to home. Whether “close to home” means Charlotte, Boone or Greenville is the ultimate question. A knee injury limited his production a little; he finished with 74 catches for 953 yards, hauling in eight touchdowns. Could be a nice depth pickup for the Niners.
Offers: Charlotte, ECU, ODU, SC State, Western Carolina
Ethan Novak from Ball Durham, Fansided’s Duke blog, feels that there’s a chance the Blue Devils are still in play for the local kid. But the Blue Devils haven’t offered yet, so it might come down to Charlotte, ECU and ODU.
Not Offered, But Interested
Offers: Georgia State, Tennessee State
Nesbitt has only picked up two offers thus far, but the Niners, along with schools like Furman and Marshall, are still on his radar.
Out of Door Academy
Interest: Charlotte, Furman, FIU, TCU, Tulane
The QB looks to have his eyes set on playing in his home state, but could Charlotte make a late push for him after the departure of Karsten Miller? Not likely, but we’ll see. Expect him to stick closer to home, though.
Saint Stephen, SC
Interest: Charleston Southern, Clemson, Charlotte, Georgia Tech, Southern Miss, South Carolina, North Carolina among others
Seen as a sleeper in some circles, McKinney had listed Clemson, North Carolina and South Carolina as his favorites back in the summer. We’ll have to see what happens in the next few days, as he currently doesn’t hold any offers.
