Happy National Signing Day everyone! Today is the day future Charlotte 49ers football players put the pen to paper and make their college choices official. This is our Signing Day 2013 live blog, which will be updated once we get word of what’s happening.
Here in Charlotte, we don’t anticipate any surprises as the second class of players are welcomed into the fold. Keep an eye out on some non-verbal commits that are still in play. To get caught up, view our signing day primer.
Your comments and reaction are welcomed! Feel free to add comments on the bottom of the page as the day rolls on. We’ll also be active on Twitter @PickAxeDigest.

OT Eugene German from Martinsburg (WV) is officially in now. Ranked 3rd in the state in his position by Rivals.com.
Update on Mattox–he is officially in. @Charlotte49ers just made the announcement.
Trent Bostick is in. WR from Richmond County (NC). Only Eugene German and Martay Mattox remain to be signed.
The breakdown so far: 2 athletes, 3 offensive players, 9 defensive players, 1 special teams player. Nine from NC, 4 from SC, one each from WV and GA.
Chris Duffy is in. As mentioned earlier, he had outstanding offers from Tennessee and ECU. Solid pickup for the staff.
Kicker Blake Brewer is in. Another local product from Cannon School in Concord. 2x all-state player.
Nick Carroll, a late verbal (yesterday), has signed with the Niners. Old Dominion had also offered the DT from Cardinal Gibbons (NC).
South Stanly (NC) OLB Jordan Starnes is in. He joins HS teammate, fellow LB Jalen Holt, on the Niners.
More than a couple of fans may be fearing that local kid Chris Duffy (ATH from Porter Ridge) could ultimately turn down Charlotte and bolt for Tennessee and ECU, where he has outstanding offers. We’ll see what happens.
Officially in: Nolan Corpening, the local product from Vance.
Update on Dutch Fork (SC) DE Jamar Winston: he has made it official and will indeed play for Charlotte.
CB Nick Halmon, from Bamerg-Ehrhardt (SC), just in. Our friend Ross Smith tweeted that Halmon was a soft verbal going in. Another player receiving FBS offers (Arizona, Vandy).
Next player in…another local product. Shrine Bowler Kalif Phillips from AL Brown in Kannapolis, a running back.
Just in: Devon Johnson, JUCO DE from GA Military. Teammate of fellow Niner Caleb Clayton-Molby in JUCO
JUCO transfer Martay Mattox just tweeted us and said he plans to sign at 10:30am ET. ICYMI he was on the South Carolina roster in 2011 before decided to transfer.
Also in: Dustin Crouser. Highly touted ILB from George Washington (WV). He suffered an injury, though, in preseason and did not play in 2012.
JBT–Justin Bridges-Thompson is in. The Spartanburg safety had been offered by Arizona, Wake Forest and NC State. A strong pickup by the staff.
Raleigh’s Wolfgang Zacherl, OL from Broughton HS, next to sign.
…followed by Nolan Corpening from Vance (NC). He has tweeted that he signed but it has yet to be announced by the university. So, as expected, no surprises yet. A long way to go.
Tevin Lawshe, OG from Mallard Creek here in Charlotte, makes it official. Local product that’s a 3 star prospect on Rivals.com.
First to sign: New Bern (NC) RB Jachin Watkins and South Pointe (SC) ATH Devin Pearson.
First update–Dutch Fork (SC) DE Jamar Winston will be signing at around 8:30, according to his Twitter. When asked who he was signing with, he didn’t say, but he had reconfirmed his commitment to the Niners in December after giving a verbal in August.
