Charlotte 49ers basketball recruiting: Niners in Matthew Atewe’s top 4; will decide March 30

The Charlotte 49ers are in the top four for 2013 prep power forward Matthew Atewe (Notre Dame Prep, MA). Auburn, Nevada and Nebraska are the other three teams that could receive the 6’9″, 230 pounder’s services this fall.

Atewe has also set a date for his decision, and took to Twitter to announce it:

Atewe is a three-star recruit according to the Rivals.com recruiting service, as well as over at Scout.com. Meanwhile, ESPN has him as a two-star recruit and the 36th ranked power forward in the country from the 2013 class.

An interesting tweet from Atewe came out on March 14, after the storied Charlotte-Richmond A-10 tournament game:

A hint as to where his final destination will be or just a casual observation by a recruit? You decide.

As far as a time line for Atewe, he took his official visit during the weekend of March 8 and 9 and was in attendance at the Saint Joseph’s game. He stopped by Nevada this past weekend while Nebraska hosted him back in January.

We’ll see what happens, but if the Niners can add him, they’ll add some needed size and strength to replace the graduating Chris Braswell, who caught the frustration of many fans especially during this season.
