A couple of items coming down the pike in the past few days involving the Charlotte 49ers women’s basketball team–one involving one of its incoming players and the other involving a current assistant coach.
First things first–assistant coach Karen Lange has been promoted from assistant coach to associate head coach, meaning in essence that she’ll be head coach Cara Consuegra’s right hand person. Lange will be going into her third season with the team in 2013-14; before that, she was the head coach at MidAmerica Nazarene in Kansas.
In other news, Ciara Gregory, an incoming freshman, became just the third Niner to be named to Parade’s All-American team. Gregory, a 5’7″ Jeannette (PA) grad (and of no relation to current assistant Sabrina Gregory), averaged 30.4 points, 3.8 assists and 6.3 rebounds a game as a senior, and also showed a knock for strong defense with an average of 5.0 steals per outing. She’s regarded as one of the top players in the Pittsburgh/Western Pennsylvania player and will be a big part of the Niners’ plans to win the Conference USA championship and return to the NCAA Tournament. By the way, if she’s half as talented as the other Gregory, the assistant, Charlotte will have themselves quite a player. (By the way, the entire list of Parade All-Americans is here.)
