ACC basketball will be hitting the Queen City this year. According to the Atlanta Journal-Constitution (h/t to @gtgblog), the Charlotte 49ers and Georgia Tech Yellow Jackets have entered into a home-and-home scheduling agreement, beginning this season.
Under the deal, the Yellow Jackets will visit Charlotte on December 29; the Niners will visit Atlanta next season.
It’s the first time the two teams have met since January 2, 2011, an 86-83 double overtime win at what was then Alexander Memorial Coliseum. That year, Charlotte overcame a six-point deficit with about five minutes remaining en route to an eventual victory. Derrio Green ended up with 21 points in that one, including 8-8 from the stripe. Phil Jones and Javarris Barnett chipped in 15 a piece; Chris Braswell finished with 14.
We should be receiving more scheduling news in the coming days and weeks; word from the Tulsa World is that the C-USA slate was to be released this week, but we do know that FAU is scheduled to visit Halton Arena on January 30. We also know that the Niners are part of the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off field, which also features Georgetown, Kansas State, Michigan and VCU among others. That tournament will take place just before the Thanksgiving holiday, from November 21-24. College of Charleston on the road (11/12), home versus Davidson on December 4 and road games at App State and Florida State are also know, as is a matchup with UNC Asheville.
The Yellow Jackets finished with a record of 16-15 (6-12 ACC) in 2012-13.
