UPDATED: Charlotte 49ers vs. Kansas State Wildcats in Puerto Rico Tip-Off First Round

UPDATED, 12:52pm: The Charlotte 49ers will take on the Kansas State Wildcats in the first round of the 2013 Puerto Rico Tip-Off, it was announced today. The Niners and Wildcats will do battle on Thursday, November 21 at 10:30am on ESPNU. It’s the first time Charlotte and K-State have met in their respective programs’ history.

The Niners were originally set to take on the Georgetown Hoyas in the first round, but for some reason, not long after the announcement was made, the Charlotte 49ers athletic department tweeted that the change had been made. That means that Georgetown will now face Northeastern, not the Niners, in round one. It’s an odd change, but it will still be a tough matchup for the Niners; K-State finished as the Big 12 regular season champion en route to the NCAA Tournament, where they lost in the Round of 64 to Charlotte’s former A-10 foe, La Salle.

More to come later, including a more detailed writeup of the matchup as well as a look at the other first round matchups in the Puerto Rico Tip-Off.
