Independence (NC) wide receiver Workpeh Kofa had his pick of Appalachian State, Ball State, Louisville, Toledo, and the Charlotte 49ers. In the end, he decided that home was where his heart was.
The three-star recruit, part of one of the top high school programs in the state of North Carolina, gave a verbal to Brad Lambert and his staff on Thursday. He is the ninth verbal commitment from the class of 2014, but it’s important to see who was in the mix: a traditional FCS power that is set to make the jump to FBS, two of the top teams in the up-and-coming Mid-American Conference and an American Athletic program that was led by a Heisman Trophy candidate.
Kofa topped the 700-yard receiving mark and hauled in 10 touchdowns in his junior season at “The Big I”. His best game would come against West Mecklenburg on September 14, when he hauled in six catches for 116 yards and two touchdowns. He helped the Patriots advance to the state quarterfinals last season and should be a big part of their quest for a state championship despite the absence of touted DB Jack Tocho, a N.C. State commit.
