It’s finally Friday! Welcome to the weekend, the final one before college football season begins. Here’s today’s edition of the Niner NotePAD, as we take a look at Charlotte 49ers news and notes, along with some news of interest to Niner fans.
–Amanda Jones is profiled by David Scott in the Charlotte Observer, as the women’s soccer team prepares to kick off the season tonight against Liberty. Jones had a breakout season last year and understands that the expectations for her from fans and coaches alike will be high going into the 2013 season.
–The Flames are led by sophomore Jamie Bouffard (five goals, 12 points last year) and junior Helena Pereira (five goals in 2012). A big question will be in goal, as Karen Blocker, who played every minute of every game last year, has graduated.
–There are questions in goal for the Niners as well. Alex Weaver and Annie McHenry have suffered injuries in preseason, leaving Alex Kubrick as the lone keeper for now. If she goes down, that would spell big trouble.
–Switching gears to football, with just eight days remaining–and Scott takes a look at the team’s preparations for Campbell next Saturday. A little tidbit from that–the first depth chart will be released early in the week.
–Finally, the men’s soccer team takes on Davidson tomorrow in the team’s final preseason game of the year. Game time is at 7pm at Transamerica Field.
