Looks like we were all wrong about last week’s score! The Charlotte 49ers came out firing against Campbell, winning by a score of 52-7. Will this week’s matchup between the Chowan Hawks be a little closer? We’ll find out soon enough, but for now, here’s our staff picks.
The last thing the Niners need are to go into this game still high off of the win over Campbell. However, from what I’ve been hearing from coaches and players alike, they’ll be focused and ready to go against Chowan. It won’t start out like last week, but I still think Charlotte has a little more firepower to take this one. Charlotte 31, Chowan 14
Coming off a blowout win that was completely out of the blue, I expect the Niners to face a much tougher task this Saturday. Having multiple scholarship players, Chowan comes into Saturday’s contest much more experienced and able to keep their composure against a hostile crowd. I expect a close game but the Niners fall, 27-21.
I don’t see the 49ers starting off as strong as they did last week. It should be closer compared to the Campbell game, but I think Charlotte will be able to pull away in the second half with superior talent and athleticism. Matt Johnson will be looking to have another strong game as long as the offensive line has a strong showing like they did last week. Charlotte 34, Chowan 20
Ok, so I underestimated the Niners in the first game. In my defense, how could I have known? Chowan comes into Jerry Richardson Stadium with 20+ scholarship players and appears to be a better team than the Fighting Camels. The Eagles’ offense is an experienced one but they’ll likely have to make up the slack created by their mediocre defense. The Chowan defense gave up nearly 27 points a game last season and I expect the Niners to exceed that total. Charlotte 31, Chowan 14
