The Charlotte volleyball team is still looking for their first C-USA victory of the season after losing both conference matches again this past weekend at Halton Arena. The Niners fell in four sets Friday night (25-19, 21-25, 25-21, 25-22) against Louisiana Tech (7-11) and were swept in three sets Sunday afternoon (25-19, 25-21, 25-16) against a tough Tulane (17-2) squad. Charlotte fell to 10-9 overall on the season and 0-4 in conference play after the weekend games.
Charlotte’s senior captain, Amanda Videmsek, led the team in kills over the weekend with 18, including a solid performance Sunday against Tulane where she earned her fourth double-double of the season (11 kills/11 digs). Sophomore Sarah McDonald also had a good weekend, leading the team in kills for the fourth time this season in the La Tech game with 13. Sophomore libero Michelle Hovey once again led the team in digs in both matches with 17 and 14, bringing her season total to a team-leading 338. Sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held recorded two blocked shots in the match Friday night, and racked up 62 assists between the two matches this weekend.
The 49ers travel to Texas this upcoming weekend with matches against conference foes North Texas and Rice. Set your calendar for the following weekend, though, where Charlotte returns to Halton Arena and the team’s annual Dig Pink Match will be played Friday night (10/18) at 7 pm against Tulsa.
