The Charlotte 49ers remain winless in conference play this season after two tough matches in Texas over the weekend. The Niners fell in three straight sets (27-25, 25-15, 25-22) against North Texas (12-10) Friday night, and were swept again (25-23, 25-15, 25-17) on Sunday again against Rice (6-14). This brings Charlotte to 10-11 overall on the season and 0-6 in Conference USA games.
Freshman Claire Kreuz and senior captain Amanda Videmsek both led the team in kills in the first game against North Texas with seven a piece. As usual, Videmsek led the team in kills over the weekend with 17 total, bringing her season total to 237 (just over 11 per match). Sophomore libero Michelle Hovey led the defensive effort over the weekend with a total of 20 digs between the two matches. Sophomore setter Britney Leigh Held racked up a nice stat line for the weekend with 7 kills, 13 digs, and 43 assists.
The 49ers will return to Halton Arena this weekend for games against conference foes Tulsa and Middle Tennessee. Friday night is the annual Dig Pink Match at 7 p.m. against Tulsa. There are activities going on all week for Dig Pink week you can read about here. For last year’s Dig Pink Match, Charlotte set a school record with 1,813 fans in attendance.
