Charlotte 49ers women’s soccer ends season at Old Dominion

It’s the final regular season game for the Charlotte 49ers as they pay a visit to Old Dominion this evening at 7pm.

Charlotte (9-6-2, 4-3-2 Conference USA) is in the C-USA tournament despite a 3-1 home loss to FAU on Sunday.  Any of four teams could win the division title; but as far as the Niners are concerned, a win coupled with a loss or draw by both FIU (vs. Marshall) and UAB (at FAU) would give it to them outright.  If both the Niners and UAB both win or draw and FIU loses, the Niners would still be division champions by virtue of the head-to-head tiebreak (the Niners beat the Blazers 1-0 in double OT on October 18).

As for the Lady Monarchs, there will be no postseason.  Currently on a six-match winless streak (0-4-2), they are mired in last place in the conference (1-6-2; 1-12-3 overall) as they hope to end the season on a high note and send their seniors off with a win.  Jessie Klamut leads the team in goals (4) and points (8).  Meredith Lennox (1.86 GAA) has seen the bulk of time in net for ODU.  The team has struggled to find offense all season, only scoring 13 goals this season (five in the last two matches) while being shut out eight times.
