Charlotte 49ers women's soccer gears up for Conference USA tournament

The preparations have led up to this moment for the Charlotte 49ers.

After clinching the Conference USA East Division title, the Niners will face a familiar foe–Marshall–in the quarterfinals of the C-USA tournament tomorrow night at 8pm ET in Houston, Texas.  The winner will take on the winner of the FIU/North Texas match set to take place immediately beforehand.

Charlotte defeated Marshall, 1-0, when the two sides met on October 25 at Transamerica Field.  Freshman Ari Reilley ended up with the eventual game winner in that one while Alex Kubrick kept her fifth clean sheet of the season, held up by a save of a penalty kick with 47 seconds left.

The Niners saw a trio of players pick up all-conference honors at the league’s awards ceremony yesterday.  Amanda Jones, no surprise, was on the list as her nineteen points (eight goals) garnered her second-team honors, along with defender Monica Trickett.  Defender Nicole Anderson was a all-freshman selection.

At A Glance:
–The Herd’s top player is Myka DeMarco (six goals and 14 points).
–Lizzie Kish has played every minute of the season in net, recording a 0.74 goals against average and nine shutouts.
–The Marshall defense has allowed only 14 goals this year, led by Kish and all-conference third team selection Alyssa Cathey.
