Charlotte 49ers Women's Basketball: Three players we're watching in '13-'14

Three Charlotte 49ers players we’re watching in 2013-14 as the ladies tip off their season against Liberty this afternoon at 5pm:

Hillary Sigmon, junior guard: Sigmon has been the team’s primary (and probably only) perimeter threat since she stepped foot on campus in 2011.  This year, she’s being counted on as a leader, being one of six upperclassmen on the team.  She showed a little more dimension to her game in the exhibition win against Johnson C. Smith last week, so if she can continue to develop as a pure scorer form both inside and outside the arc, there’s no reason to think that this team won’t compete.

Gabby Tyler, redshirt junior forward: Tyler is back after missing the entire 2012-13 season with concussion issues.  Needless to say there’s some rust that the former A-10 all-rookie selection will have to shake off early on, but if she can get back to the scorer and rebounder she was in her first two seasons, she’ll be a true threat in Conference USA.

Ny Hammonds, senior point guard: This is Hammonds’ team right now.  The floor general will be looking to reach a point that she has never reached but came close to last season: the NCAA tournament.  Her performance this season will be a big part of  the difference between the program’s first NCAA appearance since 2009 and another year of “what-ifs”.  If last year was any indication (10.0 ppg, 6.7 apg), she’s ready.
