After a nice win against Old Dominion at Halton Arena on Wednesday to open Conference USA play, the Charlotte 49ers return to the court this evening to take on the North Texas Mean Green at 7pm. Three things you need to know before the game:
–The Mean Green (6-8, 0-1 C-USA) is coming off a 86-42 drubbing at the hands of Middle Tennessee on Wednesday. North Texas allowed 15 threes, including KeKe Stewart’s 11-26 performance from outside (only four of her 30 shots were fired from inside the circle).
–North Texas doesn’t have a primary go-to star, but their scoring has been extremely spread out this year. Leading the way is Briesha Wynn with 9.6 an outing; Acheil Tac (absent from the past two games) puts up 9.5 a game and leads the team in boards with 7.9 a contest. Janis Peterson, the team’s top three-point shooting threat, is 21-56 from downtown this year.
–The team has certainly mined the Lone Star State talent pool to build its program. Thirteen of the fifteen North Texas players on the roster are from Texas. The other two are from San Francisco and Oklahoma City.
–Bonus points: North Texas has struggled with taking care of the ball at times this year, averaging 18.5 miscues an outing but forcing its opponents into 19.1 turnovers…They also average 43.0 rebounds a contest, 3rd best in the league, but allow a C-USA worst 43.5.
