The Charlotte 49ers’ postseason only lasted one game.
Behind a 28-point, 12-rebound effort by Katie Healy and a 20-point, 15-rebound outing by Hannah Little, the St. Bonaventure Bonnies took down the Niners, 81-62, in a WNIT first round matchup at the Reilly Center in Olean, New York.
It was a disappointing end to the great career of Ny Hammonds, who scored a team high 23 points while playing the entire contest as she looked to keep her team in striking distance. But after the Niners led 26-25 at the break, saw their lead disappear before coming back to tie it at 33 with 16:07 left, Healy and Little went to work. It ended with the Bonnies owning a 24-8 advantage in the paint, holding the Niners to just two field goals in the final 7:21 and without one over the last 3:54, and putting together a 10-0 run to put the game out of reach.
Hillary Sigmon dropped in 15 points on 8-8 shooting from the line in the loss. Chelsea Bowker (4-9 from 3, 12 points) and Emily Michael (10 points, 8-9 FT) were the other two Bonnies players in double figures.
Charlotte’s season ends at 15-16; St. Bonaventure moves to 24-10 and will play Bowling Green in the WNIT’s second round.
